I don’t use yahoo very much, but I am really happy for this news. The news is not surprising, however. Malaysia has always invested big in Cambodia, and a recent article put Malaysia as the biggest investor there. You’ve also seen a lot to “ Tourism Malaysia” advertisement in Cambodia, and perhaps this also coincides with the Malaysian King and Queens visit to Cambodia. Malaysia is a very attractive place for Cambodians; I’ve visited Kuala Lumpur and really loved it. What I think may be one reason behind the Khmer-language advertisement may be to attract overseas Khmer (អនិកជនខ្មែរ) like those in America, France, or Australia (around 300.000 khmers live overseas) since Cambodia does not have a national airline right now and overseas Khmers can become a potential market for them and it is mostly those Khmers who have access to the internet. Even I have to say that after seeing this, I feel that I should consider flying Malaysia Airlines when going back to Cambodia. Thanks for sharing!
ម៉ិចខ្ញុំបើកមិនដែលឃើញសោះ
ឡូយែមន! i just realize about this today!
មោទនភាពជាខ្មែរ!
As Sophat has said, Malaysia has been the biggest investor in Cambodia for 14 years in a row, according to a recent news article.
By the way, i think the ad in Khmer can only been by those of us in Cambodia. Can’t see it accessing the site from Japan.

Malaysia and Cambodia have clearly had good state relations. Khmer Islams have been living in Malaysia for years. I met some of them in 2004 when I was transitting in Kuala Lumpuar for one night to wait for a plane to Medan, Indonesia. The most surprising thing about Cambodian women and girls in Malaysia is some of them are illegally crossing the border to work there. They are somehow cheated to be sold into prostitution. In 2003, I went to visit some Cambodian girls in Kazhang prison in Kuala Lumpur and learnt that they were arrested on charge of illegal immigration. Actually these girls were not the criminals, they were victims of trafficking. In 2005, I operated a project on behalf of an NGO in Phnom Penh to resecue 39 Cambodian girls, victims of trafficking from Malaysia. These 39 girls told me that there were many Cambodian girls who were sold into prostitution and some Cambodian girls who worked in the Malaysian houses were sexually abused by the house owners. When these women filed a complaint to the Malaysian court, they were not properly offered with Khmer translation and most of the time they were secondly victimized in the court after being sexually harrassed by the house owners. Today, I have not heard anything about Cambodian girls in Malaysia. I wish they have good lives there.
